Instructional Supports in Online Assignments

Written Instructions:

The middle section of your Assignment Settings page allows you to select which instructional supports you’d like your students to receive. To enable any of these options, be sure the toggle is in the “on” position. To disable them, switch the toggle to the “off” position.

You can enable or disable: instructional videos; the drawing tool; AI Lessons, and vocabulary.

There are a few options that can be customized for individual students in your class roster. These include: English/Spanish translation, Text to Speech, and the Calculator.

Assignment Language

Turning the English/Spanish toggle to “on” means that all students will have the option to toggle back and forth between English and Spanish in their platform. To further customize this, select the drop down menu under Assignment Language.

  • If the toggle is on and you select English, this means the assignment will default to English.
  • If you select Spanish, it will default to Spanish.
  • Selecting “student setting” means that any students you have designated as Spanish-speaking will have the option to toggle back and forth between Spanish and English.

Text-to-Speech

For Text to Speech, there are three options: Full, Content Only, Answers Only, and Student Setting.

  • Full means both the question and answers can be read aloud
  • Content only means just the question can be read and
  • Answers only means just the answer choices can be read aloud
  • Student setting means that only students who have been designated in your roster will have TTS enabled.

Calculator

The calculator is available for questions from grades 6 and above. The calculator has four options: Off, On, Required Stems/Allowed Stems Only, and Student Setting.

  • Off means no one will get the calculator for any question
  • On means everyone will have a calculator for all questions
  • Required Stems only (or allowed stems only) means that only those questions where a calculator is necessary (and would be included on the SBAC) will have calculators available.
  • Student setting means that any students you have designated a calculator for in your roster will have a calculator available to them.
