Creating Procedural Fluency Assignments

Finding the Procedural Fluency Resource:

1. First, locate and click "Procedural Fluency" on the lefthand navigation bar. From there, select your desired grade level from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. You will then see the categories available for that grade level and click on the box of your desired skill. 

2. The tiles you see here are Next Gen Math presets for each topic and strand.

3. The black text is the skill covered in that preset, and the orange or blue is the standard that establishes the fluency skill being practiced

4. To see details of a preset, hover over the tile. You will see a rotation of 3 sample questions from that preset as well as the preset parameters as well as question types and number of questions.

Creating an Assignment Using Default Presets

Time: 2 minutes, 38 seconds

Creating a Print Assignment:

1. Select the printer icon at the top of the page.

2. Find the preset you want and click on it once. This takes you to a 10-question printable worksheet for that preset.

3. Here, you have several options for customizing the worksheet along the top.

You can:

• Translate the worksheet into Spanish
• Add work space
• Change the font size
• Create columns from 1-6.
• Under the "Print Options" drop down, you can make all of the questions the same, remove the question numbers, and add or remove questions.
• Clicking “refresh questions” on the top left changes the numbers in the entire assignment.
• Clicking “refresh questions” on the top left changes the numbers in the entire assignment.

Creating an Online Assignment:

1. Select the Computer icon at the top of the page.

2. Find the preset you want and click it once. This brings you to a 10-question preview. 

3. To assign this digitally as is, click "Assign." 

4. You will be directed to the Assignment Settings page, where you will select your desired settings and push the assignment to students.

Advanced Settings and Custom Presets

Time: 1 minute, 47 seconds

Advanced Settings:

1. Make sure the computer icon at the top of the page is selected. Then, find the preset you want to customize and click it once.

2. From the preview, find and click the “Advanced” button.

3. From here, you can adjust the question parameters for the skill you’ve chosen.

4. You can also change the number of questions and the question format.

5. Selecting apply will save these settings only for the current assignment and will bring you back to the preview page where you can project, print, or assign.

6. If you want to save the preset for later use, click “Save to My Collection.”

7. Give the preset a memorable name and click “save.”

8. When you want to use a saved preset, head to the fluency and select “my presets.”

Mixed-Type Assignments 

Time: 2 minutes, 28 seconds

Multi-Preset or Mixed Fluency Assignments

1. If you would like to add additional presets or other types of skills into the same assignment, you do so from the main Procedural Fluency page for your grade and skill.

2. Find the first preset you want and either drag and drop it into the builder or add it using the blue plus sign.

3. Keep in mind that when creating an assignment in this manner, each preset in the builder represents one question. Clicking the “plus” sign on the preset tile or in the builder will add more questions.

4. You can then add other presets into that same assignment, including ones from other topics. In other words, you can create an assignment with each of the four operations.

6. To add questions from other categories or grade levels, use the drop-down menus at the top of the page.

Adding Questions from Other NGM Resources

1. You are able to create an assignment that includes both Procedural Fluency and standards builder or subitizing questions. First, create the Procedural Fluency part of the assignment.

2. To add Standards Builder questions, click "Standards Builder." You'll notice the Procedural Fluency questions are still populated in your builder.

3. Add the Standards Builder questions to the builder.

4. To add Subitizing questions, click "Conceptual Understanding" in the lefthand navigation bar, and then click "Subitizing."

5. Add the subitizing preset(s) you'd like.

6. Once you have all of the questions you want in the assignment, create a title and then print or assign online as usual.
