Roll the Dice is an interactive game that allows students to practice basic operations and order of operations. The objective of the game is to create an equation that matches either the sum or the product of the rolled dice.
Once you are logged in, click "Conceptual Understanding" in the left-hand navigation bar.
Here you will see lots of resources and tools for students. To get started, click "Roll the Dice."
Pick your desired grade level from the drop-down to the upper left.
Once there, select whether you want the game to include two or three dice.
For grades K-2, students build equations using addition.
For grades 3 and up, students build equations using multiplication.
Game play works as follows:
- Start by clicking “Roll” in the right hand corner. This rolls the dice and gives the sum of the dice.
- Use the dice and operations buttons to build an equation in the box below that adds up to the sum above.
- When you are ready to check an equation, select “submit.”
- To move on to a new question, select “roll” again.
You earn one point for each die used in the equation.
For grades 3 and up, it works the same way but for multiplication.
More advanced students can use:
- Basic operations
- Exponents
- Parentheses
Roll the Dice is not assigned to students. They can access it any time on their platform by going to conceptual understanding and then clicking “Roll the Dice.”
